Meet the qcrew!

Yvonne Y. Gao

Principal Investigator

Yvonne joined the Centre for Quantum Technologies at the National University of Singapore as a Presidential Young Professor and a National Research Foundation (NRF) Fellow in March 2020. Together with the team, she has been busy building up the lab’s capabilities in using small bosonic cQED systems as a window into the rich world of quantum physics and information science. Aside from supporting the people and science of qcrew, Yvonne also leads the diversity and inclusion efforts in the physics department as well as the health and wellbeing initiative in CQT. 

Outside work, Yvonne enjoys spending her time reading, chasing after her two toddlers, and having a cold beer with friends.

Post-Doctoral Research Fellows

Dr. Li Xiang

Li Xiang joined Qcrew as a Research Fellow in October 2025. He was born in Beijing and obtained his Ph.D. from the Institute of Physics, Chinese Academy of Sciences. Before joining Qcrew, he worked on measuring flying photons and building quantum networks, with a focus on investigating quantum communication through high-temperature channels. He also has rich experience in lab maintenance, measurements, and chip design.

Li Xiang’s current research focuses on developing practical fault-tolerant quantum computing based on bosonic cQED architecture, including exploring novel quantum error correction codes, fault-tolerant gate control methods, and scalable quantum network designs. He enjoys running, cycling, jazz music, and traveling, and looks forward to working closely with his teammates in Qcrew and experiencing life in Singapore.

Dr. Tanjung Krisnanda

Tanjung went to Nanyang Technological University, from which he obtained his BSc in Physics in 2015 and his PhD in 2020. He was a Research Assistant at Nanyang Technological University from 2019 until 2020, from which he then joined as a Research Fellow. Tanjung is interested in the area of quantum information from the foundational perspective to applications. This includes: 1. Quantum correlations and their distribution in multiple scenarios; 2. Quantum neurotrophic platforms for performing quantum information tasks; and 3. Quantum systems such as microwave resonators, optomechanics, and exciton-polaritons for implementing quantum tasks. Tanjung is very keen to join Qcrew and happy for the opportunity to work closely with experimentalists.

Tanjung enjoys walking, sports such as badminton, watching movies, and playing games sometimes.

Ph.D students

Adrian Copetudo Espinosa

Adrian graduated in Physics from the University of Barcelona, minored in theoretical Physics. He did his Master’s at ETH Zurich, where he joined Andreas Wallraff’s lab for a quantum optics project about emitting large photon number entangled states and also for his Master’s thesis, working in the loophole-free Bell test with two quantum computers joined by a 30-meter superconducting link.

During his PhD, Adrian aims to acquire the knowledge to design and fabricate his own devices and conduct experiments that contribute meaningfully to a future fault-tolerant quantum computer.

Outside work, Adrian is a keen reader, he enjoys swimming and gaming and he loves traveling to discover other countries.

Candace Ni Ni Huang 

Candace Ni Ni holds an MSc in Engineering Science from NCKU, Taiwan, where she researched teleportation, benchmarking protocol, and optical experiments. After her MSc, she became a RA in the Superconducting Quantum Circuit Laboratory at NTHU, Taiwan, where she worked on fluxonium and 3D transmon. Now, she is confident that, after cutting-edge research experiences in the Qcrew, she will become a mature researcher in quantum information science and facilitate the development and realization of scalable quantum technologies in the future.

In Candace’s free time, she enjoys traveling, playing piano, finding good restaurants to eat, baking desserts especially chocolate ones, and making friends with people from different cultures!

Clara Fontaine

Clara graduated from Cornell University where she studied Electrical and Computer Engineering (B.S) as well as Engineering Management (M.Eng). Her past research and project experiences are diverse, including designing a quantum optical Ising computer, analyzing privacy-enhancing technologies for healthcare data, and innovating on floating offshore wind turbines. Through her Ph.D experience, she hopes to hone her ability to find innovative solutions to complex challenges, and make a transformative impact at the intersection between technology, science, and social justice.

Clara’s favorite type of adventure is immersing herself in cultures from all over the world. She loves to competitively dance bhangra, bake and cook recipes from unexplored cuisines, read historical and political fiction from diverse authors, and travel to meaningfully connect with others from different social identities!

Kyle Chu

Kyle did his B.Eng in Computer Engineering at the National University of Singapore from 2016 to 2020. During this time, he worked on several projects in classical computer architecture and operating systems. He hopes to be able to make use of the lessons he’s learnt from these projects to help build new and exciting quantum devices. 

Kyle has a deep fascination with computers and enjoys spending his time tinkering with old (and usually emulated) hardware or learning some obscure programming language. Outside of the digital realm, Kyle also enjoys picking locks and playing various board games.

Aleksandr Dorogov

Aleksandr graduated in Applied Mathematics and Physics from Moscow Institute of Physics and Technology, Landau Phystech School of Physics and Research. Having worked with planar superconducting qubit systems during his bachelor’s, he is now aiming to explore other promising architectures for fault-tolerant quantum computation.

As an ebullient languages learner, Aleksandr eschews insipid English structures, evincing his alacrity in accruing copious convoluted (and sporadically grandiloquent) lexicon for the sake of being a cognoscenti of the plethora of multifarious parlances, and never quails in the face of encumbrances such as a disconcerting dearth of idiom. He likes listening to modern EDM and reggaeton and knows every single Russian pop music hit of 2000s by heart. He enjoys history and human nature by reading classic writers as Dostoevsky and Tolstoy. Aleksandr casts his competitive spirit through breaking lab records in standing on balance board and practicing various sports such as volleyball and basketball.

Amon Kasper

Amon joined qcrew as a final year physics student in 2022. Having previously been exposed to theoretical entanglement schemes in UROPS projects, he couldn’t wait to experience real entanglement in the lab, where he is now working on two and three mode cat states! 

In his free time you will find him mostly upside down practicing his handstands or other calisthenics moves on the NUS turf. Do hit him up for tips! Other than that he loves backpacking through other countries, experiencing new cultures and meeting new people.

Celine Trieu

Celine received both her B.Sc. and M.Sc. in physics from the University of Hamburg in Germany. Her passion for quantum was sparked during her undergraduate studies when introduced to the world of ultracold atoms. After putting her focus in her physics education on condensed matter and superconducting technologies from a theoretical perspective she is now enthusiastic to explore the experimental landscape of superconducting qubits!

Outside of research she enjoys all kinds of crafts, from needle felting to stained glass she is always excited to try something new! She finds especially (micro-) crocheting very relaxing and loves making cute amigurumi until her hands hurt.

Héctor Calero Mas

Héctor is an engineering physicist from the Polytechnic University of Catalonia, and holds a Master’s in Applied Physics from TU Delft. During his Master’s Thesis at QuTech, he designed entanglement distribution policies for quantum repeater networks. By joining Qcrew as a PhD student, he aims to misunderstand physics at a deeper level and to face new challenges in the lab.

Born in a family of philosophers (one of his first memories is of his parents singing the “Discourse on the Method” to him), Héctor often reflects about the ethical considerations of quantum technologies, the different interpretations of quantum physics, and the unreasonable effectiveness of mathematics in natural sciences. He also enjoys practicing all kinds of sports and playing card games

Zane Chan

Zane earned his B.Sc. in Physics from Nanyang Technological University. There he worked on several research projects which includes exploring different materials to be used in organic solar cells, working on quantum autoencoders, and fabrication of graphene based 2D devices. Now he is excited to delve into the world of superconducting qubits and contribute to the development of fault-tolerant quantum computers.

Outside of research, Zane loves traveling the world and immersing himself in different cultures — and with a newfound passion for photography, he enjoys capturing these adventures through his camera.

Grace Pang

Grace earned her B.Sc. in Physics from the University of California, Davis. Her undergraduate research included X-ray spectroscopy at the Nanoterasu Synchrotron, helping train neural networks at LBNL, and modelling relativistic heavy-ion collisions. She first joined CQT as a summer intern working on simulations involving interference between photons retrieved from an optical quantum memory. As a PhD student in Qcrew, she is interested in exploring the world of bosonic cQED, learning to design and work with superconducting quantum devices, and contributing to the development of quantum technologies.

Having switched from studying illustration to physics during her first year of college, Grace continues to enjoy art in her spare time, and even spent time studying murals at the Dunhuang Research Academy. She also loves birdwatching and photography, and is excited by the new bird species awaiting her in Singapore, as well as the opportunities to travel and experience the diverse cultures and ecosystems across Asia

Gregoire Veyrac

Grégoire came to NUS from the french engineering school CentraleSupelec for a Master of Physics under the French Double Degree Program. He had been exposed to theoretical quantum computing through a undergraduate project and to experimental particle physics through two internships during a gap year. Curious about science and technology, he joined Qcrew for his Master’s thesis to discover the world of quantum technologies.

Beyond physics, he also likes to tinker with his computer’s operating system and he is particularly interested in cybersecurity. He also likes classical music and used to play organ when he was in France. Finally, Grégoire enjoys different kind of sports, especially running, climbing and martial arts.

Seungwon Jin

Seungwon obtained his BSc in Physics from Sogang University and worked as a research assistant at KIST during his senior year, where his research focused on quantum control and measurement using diamond NV centers. During his graduate studies at Korea University, he worked on the construction of a 3D bosonic quantum system, gaining hands-on experience with superconducting qubit experiments. He is excited to join qCrew and explore novel and useful physical phenomena in multimode systems.

Outside the lab, Seungwon enjoys running and swimming and hopes to become a better swimmer while in Singapore, with the goal of running a marathon here. He also enjoys visiting cute cafés to relax with good coffee and pastries, and he definitely has a sweet tooth.

Charles Zhihao Cheng

harles earned his Bachelor degree of Physics and Astronomy at Boston University. He was born in Shenzhen and grew up there. As an undergraduate, he has worked on several diverse research projects in the field of space physics and particle experiments, including a two-year study conducting spatial and temporal analysis of the induced magnetic field inside Martian magnetosphere and half a year at CERN contributing to the mechanical and electronic testing of next-generation LHC particle detection instruments. Now, having joined qcrew, he is ready to explore more about the physical beauty behind quantum information science.

Apart from academic pursuits, Charles is a keen enthusiast of electronic dance music and all kinds of gaming. He is also fond of art history and cannot miss major galleries wherever he travels. Finally, he enjoys sports, from years of playing tennis to a novice in badminton, snowboarding, and running.
